PS-S Education & Career Support Program

Career Planning Assistance
Project Self-Sufficiency provides state of the art career planning services. Highly skilled advisors on staff with PS-S utilize their Master’s level training and a sophisticated career planning software package to assist participants with the career selection process.

Advisors and participants use assessment tools to evaluate career readiness and interest; complete an analysis of the family’s financial requirements; evaluate typical wages and employment opportunities for careers of interest to the participant; and meet with community mentors who help with informational interviews and job shadowing. 

Scholarship Fund
An annual competitive process awards approximately $38,000 in scholarships to assist with academic expenses, childcare, transportation, and other approved expenses.

Child Care Fund
An annual competitive process awards child care funds to assist with child care related expenses for those participants enrolled in training and academic programs. 

Job Placement
PS-S teams up with representatives of human services and business to brainstorm ideas for job seekers and provide introductions to potential employers and mentors.

Career Clothing
Donated career and business attire is donated to the Loveland office for participants to access as needed. 

In Fort Collins, PS-S partners with the Junior League to offer the Able Women Career Closet for particiants of Project Self- Sufficiency and Crossroads Safehouse.

 


GOALS & OBJECTIVES

>Promote Self-Sufficiency
PS-S strives to build the capacity of families to become increasingly self-sufficient through comprehensive strategies that provide needed resources and opportunities for the following:

>Career Planning
High quality career planning and assessment services that encourage the selection of careers which are suitable to the individual and that pay a living wage.

>Education & Training
Education and training related to the chosen career and to life skills in general. Connections with potential employers and community members; able to open doors to meaningful employment.

>Remove Barriers
The removal of barriers to self-sufficiency.

>Promote Family Health
Facilitation of healthy family functioning.

>Encourage Self Advocacy
The empowerment of program participants to engage in self-advocacy.


>Prevent Poverty
Project Self-Sufficiency also seeks to prevent the continuation of poverty from generation to generation through a series of interventions that support and educate families while modeling successful behaviors by adults for children.
