Women Of Distinction Award 2010
Executive Director Mary Carraher was one of 12 women honored in the second year of the awards program by the Northern Colorado Business Report. She was selected for the Nonprofit – Human Services category.

Bridging The Gap Demonstration Project,
United Way Of Larimer County
SEPTEMBER 2009
First of two organizations to receive a grant from the new “Bridging the Gap” fund and part of the Pathways Past Poverty initiative. The goal is to show how current PS-S practices result in lasting change for program participants and how these practices can be applied to the larger community.

University Of Denver Graduate School Of Social Work Robert L. Hawkins Achievement Award 2009
Awarded to Executive Director Mary Carraher in recognition of excellence in the field of social wor sk as Executive Director of PS-S for 20 years. Awarded annually to a D.U. GSSW alum.

Making A Difference For Women Award 2009
Soroptimist’ Making a Difference for Women Award to 16-year PS-S Advisor Nicole Gawronski for her work at PS-S.

Group Publishing Company - Loveland, Colorado
Multiple Awards in 2010, 2007, 2005, 2002, 1997, and 1996 for Community Service and Educational Services. The 1997 Award was the major award of the day and included a check for $10,000.

Be Bold Award Presented By The Women's Foundation Of Colorado 2007
In recognition of services benefiting women and girls in Colorado. One of 20 awarded statewide. Only award for Northern Colorado.

Community Foundation Of Northern Colorado
First Annual “Agency of Distinction Award” presented to one organization each year by the foundation. May, 2004.

El Pomar Foundation “Awards For Excellence”
One of three statewide finalists in the Human Services / Self-Sufficiency Category for 2002. Nominated again in 2003 and 2004.

“People Who Make A Difference”
Recognition of the organization by the Loveland Reporter-Herald in their 2002 Special Edition Magazine.

2000 US West “Life Is Better Here” Volunteer Award
The Project Self-Sufficiency “Car Repair Guys” were recognized as the Best Volunteer Group for Northern Colorado.

GOALS & OBJECTIVES

>Promote Self-Sufficiency
PS-S strives to build the capacity of families to become increasingly self-sufficient through comprehensive strategies that provide needed resources and opportunities for the following:

>Career Planning
High quality career planning and assessment services that encourage the selection of careers which are suitable to the individual and that pay a living wage.

>Education & Training
Education and training related to the chosen career and to life skills in general. Connections with potential employers and community members; able to open doors to meaningful employment.

>Remove Barriers
The removal of barriers to self-sufficiency.

>Promote Family Health
Facilitation of healthy family functioning.

>Encourage Self Advocacy
The empowerment of program participants to engage in self-advocacy.


>Prevent Poverty
Project Self-Sufficiency also seeks to prevent the continuation of poverty from generation to generation through a series of interventions that support and educate families while modeling successful behaviors by adults for children.
